Architecture of Bees Exhibit

The Architecture of Bees is an immersive educational visual arts exhibition that brings together designers, architects, naturalists, and beekeepers to illustrate the importance and influence of bees in human design and construction.

UltraBarrio was commissioned to design the overall exhibit including two illustrations: one at the storefront, and one at the interior introducing the exhibit.

Our storefront design conceptualizes its location at the confluence of Buffalo Bayou and White Oak Bayou with Houston’s native ecology of plants, species, and activities. The design serves two intentions: to activate visitor’s interest and to extend the exhibition’s message of built environments informed by nature.

The interior mural highlights the Architecture Center Houston location within Downtown Houston near Buffalo Bayou and White Oak Bayou, and imagines a scenario in which nature, more specifically ‘bees’, co-habitat with urbanity.
